Sponsored by the Sonoma County Children’s Villiage Legacy Fund
Orthodontic and dental treatments for foster youth
Orthodontic treatments are almost impossible to get paid for through Medi-Cal, so many foster youths who desperately need braces to improve their dental health and/or self-esteem have to go without them. The SCCV Legacy Fund helps fund this critical need.
If a current or former Sonoma County foster youth (up to age 24) needs orthodontic treatment or other dental care that cannot be funded through other sources, please submit an application.
TLC will carefully evaluate additional ways to support foster youth in Sonoma County through the SCCV Legacy Fund.
Frequently Asked Questions
- How does a youth qualify for funding?
- The youth you’re requesting funding for must be under the age of 25, and a current or former Sonoma County foster youth.
- What documentation is needed along with the Program Application?
- To be approved for funding, we need the program application, the youth’s treatment plan & estimate, and their pano x -rays. If you are able to obtain their initial visit images, those are beneficial as well.
- If the youth is partially covered by private insurance, we will also need documentation from your insurance provider showing how much will be covered.
- What types of treatment are not eligible for Legacy funding?
- Retreatments, in most cases
- Treatments that are covered by MediCal
- We do not fund treatments at any Western Dental locations.
- Can the legacy fund help me pay off a youth’s treatment that has already been started?
- No, the Legacy Fund does not cover costs expended prior to submitting a Legacy Fund application. Extenuating circumstances may allow for an exception, but this is decided on a case by case basis by our Legacy Committee.
- Can I apply for funding more than once?
- Yes, you can apply to fund more than one phase of a youth’s treatment. However, we do not typically fund retreatment cases. Extenuating circumstances may allow for an exception, but this is decided on a case by case basis by our Legacy Committee.
- How can I submit an application and the required supplemental documents?
- Email to Legacy@tlc4kids.org
- Fax to (707) 823-3410, Attn: TLC’s Legacy Fund Team
- Mail to 1800 Gravenstein Hwy N. Sebastopol, CA 95472
- At what point in the process should I schedule my youth’s treatment to start?
- Please do not schedule the youth’s treatment until you get an official approval email, which lets you know that payment is on the way to the orthodontist.
- How long does it take to be approved?
- A case typically takes 1-2 weeks to be approved once all required documentation is submitted. It may take an additional week or two for payment to be sent and received by the orthodontist.
If you don’t hear from us within 2 weeks of submission, please contact us via Legacy@tlc4kids.org or via TLC’s main line at (707) 823-7300.
