Position Summary:

The Mild/Moderate Special Education Teacher will be a part of an innovative, collaborative and evolving agency and school program whose teaching philosophy is student-centered and rooted in research-based practices. The role of Special Education Teacher is a position that requires commitment and patience in working with a diverse group of students, staff and service providers.

Program Description:

Journey Academy nonpublic school, a program of TLC Child and Family Services, is accredited by the CDE and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). It is a member of the National Association of Therapeutic Schools and Programs (NATSAP) as well as the California Alliance and has the Innovator Seal, which is the highest recognition by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). Our program serves students in 9th through 12th grades who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for Emotional Disturbance, Autism, Other Health Impairment, and/or Specific Learning Disability.  

Primary Function:

Under the supervision of the site Principal, the Special Education Teacher/Case Manager is responsible for IEP development, implementation and management as well as student classroom instruction. The Special Education Teacher/Case Manager will be collaborating closely with partnering district case managers and service support providers to develop Individualized Education Plans for all students assigned to them.

Requirements & Qualifications:

Applicants must be able to qualify for a valid California mild/moderate Special Education credential.  Requirements may be fulfilled with a Provisional Intern Permit (PIP), Short Term Staff Permit (STSP), Intern Credential, Supplemental Authorization or a full teaching credential. Note: this position can provide a highly supportive environment for a qualified candidate who is new to or working towards their special education credential.

TLC Agency Requirements:

  • Obtain and maintain fingerprint, government and agency required background clearances, without additional exemptions
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical exam, TB and drug screen
  • Valid California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and auto insurance showing employee as an insured driver on the policy

TLC offers a generous benefit package for full time staff including: 

  • 100% employer paid health, dental and vision plans for the employee. Dependents would be covered at 50% of the base health plan by TLC, dental and vision would be the employee’s responsibility. Coverage is available on the 1st of the month following the date of hire.
  • Paid Time Off: 10 days per year based on 40 hr. work week
  • Employee ability to contribute toward a 403b retirement plan. TLC offers a matching contribution with vesting schedule, beginning at the completion of 6 months of service.
  • Employer paid $50,000 Life Insurance policy

Schedule:

  • 1.0 FTE
  • Monday- Friday 8:00am – 4:00pm
  • 2024-2025 school year: 207 Days (regular school year, extended school year & professional development days)

Starting Salary Range: $59,980-$68,525 depending on education and experience
