Our team is enthusiastic and dedicated to empower families, children, young adults and their support systems to cultivate resilience and authenticity by fostering healthy relationships.

Position Summary:

TLC is seeking a Peer Mentor Coordinator to coordinate all aspects of the Transition Age Youth Peer Mentor Program, including the mentor/mentee pairing process, training and ongoing support of mentors, record keeping, event planning, timesheet submission of mentors, and quarterly Elevate Youth California (EYC) grant reporting. This is a temporary, part time, position (roughly 15 hrs per week, including nights and weekends) and has an estimated end date of November 2024.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan and facilitate regular meetings with mentors that include opportunities for reflection and feedback on mentoring relationships and programs, as well as regular development and review of knowledge/skills related to leadership, advocacy and peer mentoring.
  • Meet quarterly with the Transition Age Youth Housing Program Director to review progress of the program.
  • Facilitate monthly completion and submission of mentors’ timesheets. Ensure regular payment of mentors via the EYC Grant based on their hours of advocacy, mentoring and other activities through regular coordination with the THP Resource Center Manager.
  • Communicate with peer mentors outside of meeting times as necessary to keep them informed about upcoming meetings and opportunities for participation in youth advocacy and leadership development activities at TLC and in the community.
  • Develop, refine and implement systems for receiving regular feedback/reflection from mentors and mentees about their experience in the mentor program.
  • Conduct listening sessions at least once annually of both mentees and mentors to assess the program.
  • Collect and record data on participants, activities, progress and challenges of THP Peer Mentor Program using the EYC Data Collection tool in preparation for required quarterly reporting.
  • Ensure that data and narratives for EYC quarterly grant reports are drafted and submitted to THP Program Director.
  • Work with THP Resource Center coordinator to secure any purchases necessary for program events and activities.

Skills:

  • Be aware and responsive to the historical and ongoing trauma—particularly trauma experienced in health systems, due to systemic racism and through the criminalization of the war on drugs— that low-income and communities of color have faced
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters of agency operations involving participants and employees
  • Maintain appropriate professional relationships with mentors and mentees, including displaying healthy boundaries
